Alasht is from Mazandaran, Iran where they were originally created by artisan women back in the late 19th century. The designs are based on minimalistic geometric patterns combined with stripes and varied colour combinations. The designs make a minimalist alphabet which can be used in endless design combinations. A visual treat of pattern and colour ranging from soft pastels to bolder primaries. The simple black and white patterns are also strong and evocative.
